Our Gemma Reucroft explains why we’ve chosen to sign up to become a Living Wage employer – the first in the Living Wage health sector category within the Yorkshire & Humber region.
Today, we received our plaque that confirms Tunstall Healthcare’s accreditation as a Living Wage employer. As you can see from the photograph, we are pretty chuffed!
The Living Wage is an hourly rate calculated to the basic cost of living in the UK. Unlike the national minimum wage, employers can choose to pay the Living Wage on a voluntary basis. It’s set independently, taking into account the actual cost of living, and is updated every year.
According to the Living Wage Foundation, paying the Living Wage is good for business, good for the individual, and good for society. It is a recognised sign of good practice in employment – it’s all about rewarding people fairly for the work that they do. And here at Tunstall, we agree!
We are committed to paying a fair wage to all our employees. It is good for attracting and retaining talented Tunstallers, but we also believe it is the right thing to do.
By formally signing up to the Living Wage, we are making a promise to everyone that works for us that we will pay them fairly, and we will ensure that pay increases every year meet the Living Wage standard.
