Supporting Working Carers: helping carers combine work and care

A new joint report has been published by the Government, Employers for Carers and Carers UK which calls for more support in helping carers to juggle work and care.

The report, titled Supporting Working Carers, warns that in addition to losing money, businesses risk losing valuable, experienced employees if action is not urgently taken to enable people with caring responsibilities to remain in work.

University of Salford explores effectiveness of telehealth

The University of Salford has carried out a literature review to research the effectiveness of telehealth on clinical outcomes, cost effectiveness and patient experience.

A wide-ranging review of existing studies found that telehealth:

  • Reduced patient mortality and hospital admissions
  • Reduced hospital admissions for COPD
  • Reduced blood pressure in hypertension
  • Improved glycaemic control in diabetes
  • Reduced symptoms in asthma

Telemonitoring NI service celebrated by Northern Ireland Health Minister

Experts from across Northern Ireland gathered this week to mark the success of the Telemonitoring NI service. The service, which is being provided by the TF3 Consortium in conjunction with the five health and social care trusts, is designed to transform patient care across Northern Ireland by enabling better control over their health and improving care outcomes, and has benefitted 1,500 patients to date.

Gloucestershire telecare suite supports independence for people with dementia

Gloucestershire Telecare has partnered with NHS 2gether to set up a telecare facility which helps people with dementia stay in their homes for longer.
